DS-01® does not contain genetically modified organisms, and as such, is classified as non-GMO.

However, as a company grounded in science, we also want to ensure that labeling our product as non-GMO doesn’t contribute to blanket fears and misunderstandings of GMOs in general. Just as we aim to steward the term probiotics, there are scientists and researchers working to steward the field of synthetic biology and bioengineering towards applications that can save many lives (i.e. insulin—without genetic engineering we would not be able to meet demand) and ensure humanity’s survival on this planet, while protecting the planet itself (i.e. genetically engineered bacteria that can create biomaterials to replace plastic or produce biofuels affordably, efficiently, and sustainably).

Like bacteria, GMOs have faced a long and complex history. Like any industry or category, there are those who don’t have the consumer’s best interests in mind, but also those who will relentlessly push for us to use biotechnology responsibly, for the benefit of the planet and its people. Whatever your stance on GMOs, the only way forward is an open mind and open dialogue.
