An unstable vaginal microbiome, or dysbiosis, can be caused by various factors including sex, menstruation, condom use, gels and lubricants, certain prescriptions, cleansing, past pregnancy, diet, and stress. 

These factors can impact  beneficial bacteria, introduce harmful bacteria, or disrupt the natural balance of the vaginal ecosystem.
